So we’ve seen what Jaz looks like in the mirror (some of us more than others). I have an idea in mind of what Jaz sees. But what do you think she’ll see? Comment here. Closest guess or best idea that I use will get a free print.

Cheers!

Denelian’s comment from back in August sums it up pretty well… that rich combination of emotions, but dealt with by an interesting mind.

A caring realist, still open to experience, Jaz sees both the damage done and the beauty yet there. But she’ll forever have moments of concern… what do others see…?

As for me, I’m always just curious to see another glimpse of what’s in Obaki’s own mind…

(oh… and the one I’m itching to see is Rosa!
Another realist, but where Jaz uses insouciance as a buffer, Rosa uses a layer of pride.)

    oh hi…
    i guess i *don’t* need to jump in :)
    thanks for remembering me, Q!

honestly, i think she sees herself in two [at least two] ways – one time, she’s gonna look at see herself as she *was*, another she’s gonna look and ONLY see the bad stuff…

if i could draw at all, and i were to attempt a self portrait, it would be multiple different things. one would be what i think everyone else sees, one would be what i think i look like when i am in a good place, one would look like Maddie’s [only MUCH worse], one would be almost nothing but the things that are “wrong” – traceries of pain, really.
my mom [who has had back surgeries, which are worse than hip surgeries] often laments that all she can see anymore is the “hardware” – the rods and pins that hold her spine together, the rod that allows her to use her leg [not a prosthetic, but an internal one...] braces and buckles – she says she feels like Frankenstein. i feel more like a cyborg, at least the first steps of becoming a cyborg when you’ve just replaced a thing or three.

Jaz has to feel that way somewhat, too, i think. the leg isn’t *her*, it’s a machine. not a powered machine, true, but still a machine. and i have noticed, in support groups, that most people feel alienated by a prosthetic or other aid – at what point are you still “human”? it’s one of those big scarey subjects… every replacement happens because of a loss, and every loss feels like a piece of person-hood has been taken [not helped at all by the way people, generic people i mean, treat visibly disabled people.]

    i’m rambling, sorry.
i’m pretty stoked to see what image of Jaz you’ll give!

WIth the current events in her life I figure Jaz would see her prosthetic leg rather prominently with the rest of her image as a ghostly spectre.

  5. HappyKnight says:

I have to disagree. Jaz seems to be coping well and is a very confident person. I believe she will either see herself as taller, an Amazon if you will, or she will see herself more as… well it is hard to describe. As a continuation of the family. She will not only see herself, but with her parents, grandparents, etc, standing behind her.

But my money is on the Amazon, someone who can and will do anything. If for no other reason than to have someone else on the cast besides Ace with a positive self image.

I’m not sure how it’d be drawn but I think loneliness will come through. Her rash decision to go to Iraq as well as her sexual boldness I think are masking an almost desperate need to connect. She’s very “together” in a lot of ways but some of it is bravado.

  7. Mydnight says:

You may be right HappyKnight. Jaz does have a lot of confidence, but I wonder how much of it is more bluster covering a bit of insecurity, something we all see in the mirror every now and then. You do have a good point though, and an amazonian Jaz wouldn’t be a bad thing either :D

@jon71 Loneliness isn’t something I had thought of, but it is a good point.

  8. Amelia says:

Of course she’ll see the leg as it was: she’s Jaz!
My guess is that’s not the only ghost she sees either.

  9. Amelia says:

ALternatively, given that she’s kind of the anti-pixie (confident in herself, likes who she is and isn’t afraid to show it) maybe we should get a body with no clothes? (appropriately interrupted at crucial points of course, for non donors anyway)

  10. derSkavampir says:

I think Jaz is very confident in herself, but a litle part of her self is unconfident. In some comics this break through her mask i.e. http://tmi-comic.com/2009/08/22/pillow-talk/ where she just can’t stop talking.

@amelia: yes she definitely will see herself whith both of her legs.

  11. Dragonsbane says:

Jaz has all the confidence in the world. I see her, looking and seeing Success in her future. She will see the aritificial leg, as it will not stop her being a nurse. Plus with the tricks, she can do with the “crutches”, she will be a Headliner at any Strip club she dances at. I also see her dancing without the leg on. Pornstars will take a back seat to her.

I can also see her, seeing her Guardian Angel in the mirror. Surviving the bombing in Iraq, could very well allow her to see her own Angel now.
