I don’t think the purpose of the antennas was fully explained. If they are for cooling, I wonder if it would work to use multiple fiber strands that could resemble hair. That would solve the problem of Akane veing able to easily control hers.
Hmm… but Akane is only allowed to cut her hair with bronze scissors as part of a complex ritual… and her face-off with the Mami Wata proved that it’s a lot more than just privative superstition.
I’m not sure how removing a section of her scalp and replacing it with a synthetic epidermis with a patch of artificial hair would fit into her family traditions about not cutting her hair… but I’m guessing not well.
