Tarent: Just a fact. I wasn’t aware of the issue with her identity until my contact with INS brought it to my attention. However, it might behoove you to have more friends at the Federal level.
Ace: That’s not necessary. It’s a non-issue.
Tarent: How is that?
Ace: She’s Japanese. In her home district it’s customary for official names to be written with Chinese characters, but they are often pronounced in the Japanese. Nishin Akai is how her name is, shall we say “spelled,” with Chinese characters, but Ryoshi Akane is the common “pronunciation.” Akai and Akane both mean Red. Nishin means “Herring,” or a herring fisherman in her home dialect. Ryoshi is more literally, “Fisherman.” If anything, it could be argued that Ryoshi Akane is the alternate. She could, I suppose, use the English translation, but that would mean you’re literally pursuing a “Red Herring.”
