X: People are practically throwing resource credits at Sky to get a mug like mine. Put any temperature liquid in it when it's empty, and it stays that temperature, even if you add more that's at a different temperature. And it has a slot for a concentrate tube in the handle that allows me to add more flavoring as I want. That way our beloved captain can't tell if I'm having green tea or triple espresso extra sweet.
Peach: You said you were cutting back.
X: I said I'd only have one cup per shift-cycle.
Ace: So, bond-parent?
Peach: X and I are pair-bonded, since we completed Basic Education. That's like High School, but generally finished at around 20 cycles, or 16 T-years of age. But we've been close for as long as we can remember.
Ace: Kind of like marriage?
X: In that it's a legal family relationship. But most pair and group bonds usually don't include any males, particularly fertile men. Not enough of them to go aground. It works for me, since I never expected to have gene-children, but Sky, Dawn, and Gilligan are my daughters and son. And I'm something like an aunt to their fostered siblings.
Ace: Oh. I see.
Peach: But we're not lesbians. We are very close, and we do share a bed and a bit of intimacy. But, other than the few times things got a bit heavy, our mutual sex life doesn't usually go much beyond having a man in our bed. To quote Shakespeare, “Were kisses all the joys in bed, One woman would another wed.”
Sky: Pfft. Yeah, and that's why I get an early bedtime any time the bourbon comes out. Seriously, Mother. It's a new millennium. Even Terrans are getting over their hangups over who loves who.
