Dr Lane: It's a lucky thing Jaz dragged you in here, Ms Hazaki. In addition to dangerously low glucose levels, your blood test reveals that you're suffering from lactic acidosis. You shouldn't be conscious right now, much less feeling fine. I'd like keep you over the weekend while we ease your glucose level and blood pH back to something more normal. Your available records make no mention of hypoglycemia or hypertension. When were they diagnosed?
Aoi: The hypertension cropped up about 8 years ago, right in the middle of a huge family crisis. I was never actually diagnosed with hypoglycemia.
Dr Lane: You weren't?
Aoi: My mother, step-mother that is, didn't like my having sweets, and sneaking them has always been my naughty little secret. I never got around to telling my doctor, Ueda-sensei, about it.
Dr Lane: Sort of like how you neglected to mention taking what you thought was a hypertension medication to your oncologist? Well, I suspect that your sweet tooth is what's kept you alive. Hopefully, your Dr Ueda will return my call soon and we can get to the bottom of this. But I have to ask. Is there anything you haven't told me that I should know?
Aoi: Nothing that's covered by Doctor-Patient Confidentiality. But I have some amusing anecdotes that the Statute of Limitations have run out on.
