Remembering Leonard Nimoy
Sure, Captain Kirk was great. He had the big chair. He won the fights and got the girl (I wasn’t quite 3, but I knew that was important). And it was his ship.
But Spock was the epitome of reason and intelligence. If it was Kirk that saved the day, it was Spock that told him how. Spock was my idol. And later, as I grew to understand that there’s a difference between the character and the performer, it was Mr Nimoy that I idolized. Even when he was “not Spock” I could respect that.
But, with any apologies necessary, Mr Nimoy will always be Spock to me. And with respect, not just Spock.
He lives on our hearts and will be remembered for a long, long time.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to curl up in a corner and sob like a little girl for a while.
Live long and prosper.
