An online comic about Ace. A young geek that's too nice for his own good. All he wants is a regular life and a regular girlfriend. But he knows that isn't going to happen. – CGI – Adult situations. Artistic nudity. Not suitable for children or Fundies.
Ace: Why build ships with “their” computers in the first place?
Peach: We don't have the actual technology to build FTL drives, much less the ships. All of the ships in our fleet were built by “them” before the rebellion. The newest are around 1000 cycles old. Some are thousands, maybe tens of thousands cycles old. I don't even want to think about how old some of the habitats must be. But if you can break the control lockout on this ship, and if we can learn to do it ourselves, the only limitation will be collecting enough raw resources to keep the fabbers busy. We could produce the components to build new ships and habitats, have enough to tear down for reverse engineering, and, we hope, begin producing new, better designs of our own.
Ace: I'm seeing one problem here. Once you can start producing more ships, what's to stop you from coming back in conquest?
Peach: Lack of interest.
Ace: Lack of-?
X: It takes time and energy, resources that no civilization has too much of, to travel to another star, and then more to navigate into a star system to make orbit around a given planet. Most of our population resides in space habitats, because it's more economical. We can collect all the raw materials we can use without coming any closer to a star than it's Oort cloud. Our fusion plants run on gas from the nebula and wandering gas giants. Forced labor is naturally anathema to us. The only reason we haven’t completely eliminated menial labor is that some people like getting their hands dirty. The only thing we really need from your world is help with our gene pool. And there's no shortage of volunteers for that. As for anything we might simply want, we can buy through agents at very little real cost to ourselves. And the last thing we need is slaves that would eventually rebel in turn. The real value your world has to us is its history and culture. Invading would ruin it for everyone.
Peach: Besides, you people are ka-ray-zee!
