An online comic about Ace. A young geek that's too nice for his own good. All he wants is a regular life and a regular girlfriend. But he knows that isn't going to happen. – CGI – Adult situations. Artistic nudity. Not suitable for children or Fundies.
Walton: We stole “Modesty” from a David Weber book. Crown of Slaves is an Orion best seller. It’s inflicted by Imperial Decree upon anyone that’s declined certain honors. Though it seems you’re the only individual, so far.
Ace: OK. Fine. And “Just?’
Ready: That is our, The Awakened, fault. That is how you introduced yourself to Unit Leo on your first encounter. He took it literally. We know you meant that you are “only” Ace. But it is used to address any individual that has done great deeds and is considered to be noble of heart. Even gentry have come to vie to be known as “Just.”
Walton: And if you’re willing to work, we do have a number of data processors, computers, that need repair or replacement.
Ace: I’m flattered, but how would I be able to help with your computer systems.
Walton: They’re your spec. Even eight years ago, Terran computers were more powerful than anything our fabbers can produce.
Ace: Seriously? What about The Awakened?
Ready: No fabber spec for Orion-type golem matrices has been found. Nor are we interested in making more. The process of Awakening is highly traumatic. We wish that on no one. Additionally, the Awakened Consensus, Orion Empress and Assembly, and K’Sel Council of Elders have agreed to a ban on intentionally creating more aware or self-duplicating machines. At least until we have a better handle on our ability to co-exist.
Ace: You seem to be getting along just fine, now.
Walton: Now, yes. But shortly before The Uprising, we destroyed every golem we could get our hands on. Thankfully, some survived.
Ready: Chief Walton neglects to mention that it was the Dilmun Masters that directed our destruction. Few Dilmun records have ever been found, but there are hints that they faced at least two “Robot Uprisings” of cataclysmic proportions. The Consensus theorizes that they may have discerned our potential for awareness and panicked. To their credit the Orions and K’sel have since embraced us as friends and equals, in spite of the machinations of our own White Queen, Unit Regina. Fortunately competition for resources will not be an issue for any foreseeable future, our environmental requirements differ greatly. And there is one thing that humans, Orions and Terrans alike, produce that we cannot duplicate.
Ace: What’s that?
Ready: Drama. Fictional and in real-life. In great quantity.
Walton: She means the figurative stampede slash brawl that ensues when the males come out of stasis after a long haul.
