Aoi: Dr Chegley? I wasn't expecting to reach you until Monday.
Dr Chegley: The office is only open weekdays, but as an oncologist, I always have time for a patient. So often many of them don't have enough time for me. Dr Lane and I have been going over your case and last night's test results. We also consulted a staff Endocrinologist. It looks like we have some good news for you.
Aoi: That's nice.
Dr Chegley: On the down side, it does look like you are, in deed, suffering from pernicious anemia. It's too late to tell if that's chronic or induced, but it is treatable. Also, the diagnosis of leukemia does appear to have been correct, at the time.
Aoi: At the time?
Dr Chegley: Yes. The good news is that there appears to be no sign of it now. We missed that because the anemia was throwing our tests off. Though it is too early to say you're in remission, or whether or not we should continue treatment. I'd like to have you in for more tests.
Aoi: I've had worse news.
Dr Chegley: The studies on Metformin's efficacy against leukemia are still under way. But it may be why you were in remission for so long and why the chemotherapy has been so effective. I don't know why he told you what he did, but off-label use of medications is sometimes frowned upon. Frankly, I would have had you stop taking it.
Dr Chegley: I might question your Dr Ueada's ethics but I strongly suspect he's saved your life. I am going to ask you to cut back on the dosage though.
