Found an old motherboard and CPU I’d quit using because the sound went bad on it. I use a USB headset these days anyway, so that’s not a big deal.
It’s effectively what I was using 3-4 years ago, but it works (slowly).
Cheers!

I said I’d be updating daily again, barring any more disasters.
Well, I can’t get my computer to boot. Looks like another motherboard’s gone bad on me. (It would be under warranty if I could find the reciept.) I spent all weekend fighting what I thought was a software problem, but this morning it gave up the ghost. Can’t even get into the BIOS at this point.
Since I can’t drive these days, this may take a while. Assuming I can find an AM3/DDR2 motherboard locally at all.
Cheers!
I was planning to announce this on October first, but that obviously didn’t work out. Seeing as I have considerable free time these days, there’s no reason not to do this. Barring anymore disasters, TMI will be updated every weekday for the foreseeable future.
And, I’m going to start doing Maddie’s Monster again on Sundays. Might even see if I can get the Bit Bucket going again.
Cheers!
OK, I’m going to call the service change by Dreamhost a good thing. They are giving me a pretty good break on the cost.
It’s worth noting that no hosting provider that says “unlimited” actually means it to the extent that they’ll lose money on you.
So, I’ve resized the archive and made some other adjustments. Should cut load by about 30-40%, making the site faster than ever.
Everything’s still readable and I even managed to lighten up many of the comics that were a bit dark.
Thanks everyone for your patience.
You might notice today’s comic is a bit smaller. I gotta start saving on bandwidth.
Seems TMI has finally hit that threshold where the hosting provider notices the traffic and decides to change the deal.
Friday evening, just after 6pm, I got a notice from Dreamhost that my site was causing very heavy server load, but rather than disable it, they were moving me to what they call a private server (really a variation on a virtual server from what I can tell). They’re subsidizing the price by $15 a month even (though for how long was not mentioned).
Still, I’m a bit upset that this was done without warning and that my “unlimited” service seems to have limits after all. (To be fair, over the last few days, the traffic’s gone through the roof.)
Private Servers with Dreamhost start at $15 a month, so on the face of it, this should be a good deal. But that’s at the basic level of service. The price goes up as you find yourself needing to use more resources (system memory I think). A saving grace of this service is that one sets the limit for resource use manually. I could cap it at the basic 300MB and no have to pay any extra. But it’s already looking like I’m going to need more than just the basic level of service. It’s not going to be that expensive, but I think its prudent to put the comic on a bit of a diet; slightly smaller in size and higher compression.
I have a “trial week” on this new service that will give me an opportunity to see if and what it’s going to start costing me. And whether or not this is a good thing. And I’m going to be looking at other hosting options.
Cheers!
I was checking my archives and can’t believe I’ve overlooked mentioning Oh Goodie!by Seamus Patrick Burke.
While TMI is a long way from challenging the likes of Sluggy Freelance and PVP Online, much less the awesomeness that is Schlock Mercenary, I still feel that it’s my place to give props to the web comics I like that I think are under appreciated. I was just looking at Seamus’ numbers on Project Wonderful and he’s got hundreds of readers now. I remember how excited I was to get into that range, but he should have thousands.
If you like TMI, I can honestly say you’ll like Oh Goodie! I don’t know art, but the stylization is consistent (which I consider high praise for web comics). And he has some great story lines, based on 17 year old James of Chicago.
Oh Goodie! goes back to 2002, but was recently rebooted with all new art and stories. Usually I don’t like reboots, but Seamus is clearly serious about making a great go of it.
Cheers!
Due to the interest in the “painting” over Rocky’s bed. I’ve expanded the TMI galleries to include that and some other art I’ve done. There is artistic nudity, so you’ve been warned.

I am humbled and cheered at the kindness I have enjoyed from you wonderful readers over the years I’ve done TMI. I cannot say my faith in Humanity is restored, because in all this time it has never faltered. When I have been faced and overwhelmed by troubles that are in truth, trivial compared to other griefs in the world, there has always been someone eager to help or offer a kind word.
Thank you, All!
I’ve kind of slipped into a grey mood, I guess. Just when things were looking up, I had to go and have this stroke. I tried to keep it from getting me down, but it does overwhelm a person some times. I’ve let more than a few things slide, including TMI.
Working on a new comic for Monday right now, tho.
