An old house, a geek, a cute transvestite, a very tall lesbian, and at least one ghost–what could happen? – Adult situations and artistic nudity. Not suitable for children.
Yeah… mind you, it’s the kind of reason that has a statute of limitations. Carly’s in his 20s now, and his mother hasn’t been 15 in just as long. The degree of scandal and embarrassment shrinks as time passes. Even if her father is married to another lady, is she going to divorce him over something that happened that long ago?
It’s all very different and more manageable now than it would have been if Carly’s mom (I’m getting tired of typing that; not too big a spoiler to say her name’s Aoi) If a 16-year-old Aoi had shown up on the wife’s doorstep with a baby in her arms, that’d be a huge life-upheaving crisis.
At this point, the impact is vastly less: “Hey honey, we’ve got an invitation to my son’s wedding.” “WHAT son?” “Oh, well let me tell you about a few things that happened before I met you and fell in love with REAL the love of my life. Heh…”
On another note… these kind of “shameful” distancing to avoid scandals always sit poorly with me. Is the shame of having been a dumb horny teenager once actually greater than the shame of abandoning a child? If I’m comparing the two, not even close… and the first one, as discussed, becomes less shameful with the passage of time, whereas abandoning a teen mom and child stays disgraceful pretty much indefinitely until you reconcile and make amends.
Sounds like a good reason to me.

Honey, before I met you, I slept with another girl… She was underage… The daughter of a mob boss… And I fathered the heir to a mob empire.
Um… There’s no good time/way to tell your wife that.
