Either Aoi is very VERY sharp, and that’s true, or Carly hasn’t internalized how far Japanese people will go to pretend they don’t know about something that embarrasses the whole family.
It’s a crowded country with very little space to live in. Privacy exists more as a state of mind than something that can be enforced with thick walls. The things people there will willfully ignore seeing blow the mind of visiting westerners. You fart on a crowded commuter train, suddenly everyone loses their sense of smell.
