I think I did the same thing before I went to Japan on student exchange.
Mind you I did it by email (this predates texting).
That probably scores me worse for “sensitivity” but higher for “conflict avoidance”.
Damn you, younger me! Such a dick move (although not as famously established as a classic dickish move at the time)! …and probably 90% because I wanted to avoid an awkward phone conversation! 🙁
