“Elevated” generally means above the level of your heart.
The idea is that interior parts of her foot tore and are healing, and letting blood pool down there during the healing process can lead to larger blood clots (kind of like scabs, but inside the body) than would be formed if the blood as able to flow back “downhill” in a quick and timely manner. The clots will eventually break up and flow away through the bloodstream as the new healed tissue grows in, but if they’re over-large, you may get a big thick piece of clot fall away into the bloodstream that hasn’t fully disolved yet, and that can block your narrower veins and arteries, even cause a heart attack in the most extreme cases.
It’s not a very HIGH risk, but if lying down with your foot on a couple pillows lowers your risk of abrupt and unexpected DEATH, why not?
