Just had a new thought.
The command consoles secretly only accept high-level commands via eye-movements (of approved eye types) and in the K’Sel culture impressed upon them by their Dilmun masters, covering one’s eyes is a sign of submission. That’s not a coincidence.
Damn… Years later and I’m STILL peeling back more layers of Andy’s magnum opus here!
One wonders if changing the Orion’s eye was a reaction to the development of a K’Sel who was more curious than submissive. Imagine the havoc that might result from suddenly and unexpectedly gaining access to the Master’s controls.
