Humans experience measurable brain damage just from spending weeks and months in solitary confinement cells.
This encapsulation could definitely be argued as a “cruel and unusual” punishment in most Earth legal systems (you know, if we didn’t already do worse ourselves). On the other hand, executing a nigh-immortal being must be exceedingly difficult, so one does as one must.
