Mind you, I don’t think police go out of their way to erase or shred old files. Not if a year after they were supposed to destroy a record, they can wave it around in court to help score another conviction for their tally-board.
Deliberately requesting your record be cleared after the 5 years probably has to be initiate on your end; don’t just trust that the police will do it themselves. They have no incentive to do so unless you give them one.
