An old house, a geek, a cute transvestite, a very tall lesbian, and at least one ghost–what could happen? – Adult situations and artistic nudity. Not suitable for children.
Like she said, she has to rationalize everything. Humans do it all the time. Think about one of the ten commandments being “thou shalt not kill” yet war is okay.
Something like, “murder for your own personal reasons is a horrible crime… but killing people to advance your political leader’s personal agenda — oops, I mean ‘for your country’– is a great honor and we’ll put your name on a monument and pin shiny medals to your chest”?
I’m not out to mock soldiers, but I always felt “God” has very little to do with the true reasons they’re sent to places to shoot other people. (Not their own individual reasons to go, mind you, but the motivations of the decision maker that sent them.)
Soldiers usually deserve our respect and honor, but if you study both sides of any war you realize that there are some amazing mental gymnastics that have to go on for both sides. The boots on the ground never see the whole picture and there are usually large portions 9f information deliberately kept from them. And sometimes that is for the sake of their own sanity. You really don’t want to tell the person who needs to drop the bombs from a plane that there is an orphanage or hospital right next to his target that will be destroyed if the calculations for the drop are off by a foot or so. The person would likely never drop the bombs and the factory would go on creating munitions that will kill off his buddies in the trenches. I’m less surprised by how many soldiers get PTSD than I am that any of them are left sane at all.
