So, how’s this work, anyway?
Carver
The bed has transporter circuitry embedded in it, with extra high resolution scanners. I can use it to move groups of cells or even individual cells around freely, reassemble bone fractures, remove growths and tumors, and even perform reconstructive and vanity surgery. I’ll be smoothing out the scar tissue, remove the pigmented cells, and swap out some of the scar tissue with clusters containing pores and fine hairs.
But don’t ask me to do any breast augmentations.
Jaz
You don’t do those?
Carver
We don’t use foreign material. And you don’t have an ounce of spare fat cells for me to use. But we do have a few T-months together. Eat hearty and I could send you home with D cups.

Jaz
Heh. No worries. Breast size is far from Ace’s first consideration.

Nothing vane (or wrong) with wanting to fix injuries
Wanting to change the size or shape of your nose when there is nothing wrong with it, is
Got a down-vote for using the wrong spelling of ‘vain’? o_O
My sister got herself a nosejob. Saved up $20,000 for almost a decade for it, because it was vitally important to her. She spent almost half a year looking like she lost a boxing match, but when all the bruising faded she likes who she sees in the mirror now, and considers it money well spent.
…And after all that, the rest of the family doesn’t have the heart to tell her we can’t tell if it’s at all different or not.
Didn’t say people couldn’t (or shouldn’t) if they wanted to, just that it is vanity (which, according to some people, is a SIn)
Personally won’t judge them for it (guessing saying that it is wrong could be viewed as judging), it’s their choice, won’t stop me from wondering “Why? if there is nothing wrong with how it was”
You capitalize “sin”, and along with the context, suggests to me that you had the sort of church upbringing that leads impressionable young folks to consider that “sin” means something along the lines of “intolerable Crime against God!” that you ought never, ever do, and beg for forgiveness if you failed your job as a Christian to not do Sins! That Sins can damn you to an eternity of torture in Hell!
I find it a great comfort to remember what the word actually means; It’s an archery term from an old dialect, meaning “to miss the mark”.
That’s a pretty far cry from something to feel soul-crushing shame for, or to have to beg for forgiveness for. Much less to judge others as your inferiors for. (We get reminded not a few times in the Bible that judging is not our job, but God’s. On the whole we seem to have a lot of trouble keeping that one front-of-mind).
So, if you find that you’ve “sinned”, relax a bit… and take another shot. ^_^
If there is nothing wrong with it. The military actually offered me a nose job when I was in because my nose is too narrow, the specialist thought I couldn’t breathe properly. I kept my mouth shut for a few minutes making it obvious with my chest that I was breathing fine through my nose and she dropped it.
‘Fixing something that ain’t broke’ seems to be the military way 😀
Sounds a bit more like “Specialist trying to justify her job’s existence” to me. 😛
Can they reform a leg?
Sounds like they are close to being able to do something like that.
But then … would Jaz want it done?
Judging by Sky’s arm, I’d say their medical science hasn’t gone that far
it’s sky. she might opt for being a cyborg with cool gadgets and useful features over having two biological fleshy arms. especially if it’s faster, and means she can get back to tinkering sooner
Sky (and Jaz) lack the Orion ability to regenerate flesh and thus regrow limbs. They have offered Jaz a more advanced prosthesis but she said she was not that vain. She did concede that removing the scars was something she was vain enough to want.
Doc Carver said, in an earlier cartoon, that replacing her leg was beyond their current abilities, but they could make a more advanced prosthesis.

“It’s a shame that Terrans lack a regen factor, so I’m unable to help you with that [ed- hysterechtomy], or your leg. If you’re with us long enough, a more advanced prosthetic could be produced.”
Jasmine said she wasn’t vain. Carver said they could remove her scars in a simple out-patient procedure (which we are about to witness?) and Jaz admitted she was a little vain.
I’m thinking it could be done with that tech. (I know it’s fiction) If you add a scaffold for bone cells to work with, solid bone will form. They could take bone cells and create a bone lattice, and let it fill out naturally. Stretch skin and muscle tissue and more tissue grows. It would take a while and many step by step procedures, but a living limb could be grown. Since they have the ability to move donor cells, (which would grow back when taken in small amounts,) they could coax bone and soft tissue to grow where ever and how ever they want. They could even 3D print lattice work for each individual part, place it, seed it with living cells, and let it grow in. I imagine tendons would be harder, but IRL doctors graft tendons now in reconstructive surgeries.
Isn’t Jaz diabetic? Wouldn’t their tech be able to fix that, if they can fix it I think Jaz be really thankful.
She has a pancreas, it just doesn’t work right. Manipulating her own pancreas cells would just rearrange more diabetic pancreas cells.
You’re thinking of Type 1 Diabetes. Actually, Type 2 Diabetes has insulin resistance at the heart of the matter. Nothing wrong with her pancreas (over all). But, you’re right that nothing done to it will change her condition.
OK, I missed the context the first time I read this but now I get it and can read between the lines: Kimi and Ready overheard Carver advise Jaz to fatten up if she wanted larger breasts so in the last panel Ready is asking Kimi if she wants breast augmentation. To which Kimi said yes.
Yes, butt who is she doing it for? Jaz also said that breast size is “far from Ace’s first consideration.”
For herself, I imagine.
Gelatin cubes are mostly protein, so they would not produce much body fat. If they are made with vodka, they might reduce….um….tension resulting from the overheard tidbits.
