Somehow I strongly suspect that Ace is not capable of changing his mother’s mind on anything. I can see where she would find it easier to avoid the argument (which would only was both their time and make them aggravated with each other.

Gina is old enough to make her own decisions, and Ace is not her father 😛
At the same time, being a Navy Brat, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel with Dad when he was deployed overseas, but the time lost to cruises was painful. There was little enough of my life before I lost him. It does let me understand Ace’s frustration here.
