Akane may be trying to figure the best way to keep Ace from disappearing without her there to watch his back. Funny thing about guarding in Japan, even if you’re not there to protect them having your lord die in an attack is a disgrace only repairable by seppuku.
Yup: just because you literally weren’t there to save them is no excuse, and could even be viewed as why they died
There have been more than a few cases where the lord ordered a samurai out on a critical mission away from the lord’s side and a sneak attack wiped out the warriors and lord, leaving the samurai the shame of not dieing by his master’s side. Yet to refuse a direct order from your master would bring equal shame. Rock and a hard place.

Corroboration is not the issue, the samurai knows his shame, the problem comes when the lord is the only one who could give permission to wipe out the shame.
