Denali
I am so jealous of your hair. We all are. Long hair is traditionally a luxury to us. Does it take a lot of care?
Akane
When alone, it is sometimes tedious. But together with Cousin Kimi, we help each other. So now the time is more enjoyable.
Denali
Well, you can always count on help with it in here. Everyone’s going to want to touch it. Fortunately Ace’s brother recoded shipsuits to work around longer hair if there’s an atmospheric emergency. So keeping our hair short isn’t important any more. Just habit. So, don’t let anyone tell you that you have to cut yours.
Akane
That is good. I cannot allow my hair to be cut. Not with iron. By family belief, only special bronze may be used with ceremony. It is for power against enemies, yokai, and oni.
Denali
Yokai and oni? You mean demons? You believe in them?
Akane
I believe no demon has ever challenged me.
Magenta
She’s got you there, Commander.

She doesn’t remember her encounter with Mami Wata. It helped her in that.
does not remember, or remember being told to never talk about it? While she wold have counted as a Kami, and not a Yokai or Oni, Mami Wata admitted that Akane had power.
First rule of the Mami Wata Club, you dotn speak of the Mami Wata.
Ace’s brother…!?!?!?
Gilligan.
AKA “poopy head.”
Sky’s brother, Ace’s half-brother.
His Orion half-brother, vie their mutual father, Larry.
Yeah right, and legend tells of St. Patrick using the power of his faith to drive all of Ireland’s snakes into the sea.
It must be true because there are no snakes in Ireland right?
Except those in parliament 😛
There never were snakes in Ireland. The snake was a symbol of wisdom and used by the druids, whom provided education and medical care to the populace (as in not just the noble class, but to everyone) Patrick objected to this as it reduced the power of the Church over the people. Up until he was in charge the druids and the Church worked together. Patrick persecuted the druids until they vanished. Those are the snakes he chased out of Ireland. And why I decline to celebrate St. Patrick’s day.
Just goes to show that every nation has holidays that should not be remembered fondly.
St Patrick’s Day is more of a big deal in America than in Ireland. If the people celebrating it were really good Catholics they would be spending the day in prayer, not out drinking. March 17th Patrick Mass day is smack in the middle of Lent. Which means no meat, minimal alcohol, and no parties.
But…She’s got bangs…
And they get cut with ceremonial bronze scissors, read for understanding, all words matter.
man i hate haing a mind like i do. the thought pop into my head is……..does that go for all of her hair? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbFjePdOpK8
Some lawns just don’t grow, no matter how much fertilizer you throw at them.
Well the phrase “Does the carpet match the drapes” (the question Felecia Day was asked in the clip you linked) could be taken in two different ways. Traditionally it is asking if the woman dies her hair e.g. does her pubic hair match the color of her head hair. But more recently it could be asking about grooming habits, since the shaved look has grown in popularity to the point where pubic lice are now an endangered species (no joke!). So for Akani the question could be asking if she has a full bush, since as she has special restrictions on cutting her head hair the same could apply to her pubic hair.
Another possible answer is found in the 2nd panel of this “QC”-webcomic:

Wouldn’t have to be cut. Painful to think about but waxing involves no sharp edges.
Waxing is one method…
… another option is electrolysis.
Either way, no sharp edges
Technically, Mama didn’t challenge her, she never said anything about not meeting a demon (place the fact, Mama is no mere ‘demon’)
Actually the snake was a symbol of the old druid class, which Patrick hounded out of Ireland. Keep in mind, prior to his time, the Church and the druids got along fine, and the druids provided education and medicine for the population. This during a time when most of the areas controlled by the Church had little educated populus outside of the clergy. Patrick took that away, but it sounds so much better to imply that he removed something dangerous to the people of Ireland rather than just having secured his power base.
@[Greywolf1963]:
My understanding was that the source of that saying was that Druid priests would tattoo blue snake-patterns onto their arms.
#But_I_Could_Be_Wrong
Druids were common to a number of countries many of which would have known about real snakes (which druids considered to symbolize wisedom) but it is unknown if druids did have such tattoos or if that is just creative fiction. Interestingly enough I recently learned that Ireland did once have snakes, at least it did before the last ice age killed the ones that did not retreat off.
Greywolf1963:- to the Church (or at least Paddy McStickuphisarse), edumacated masses were dangerous and a threat to their control
Yes, that was the attitude of the Church in general which is why only a small number of people were able to read, write or understand basic math. The two results were a lock on power of communication via the Church and a time period we now identify as The Dark Ages. The loss of knowledge and potential innovation during that time is one of the saddest aspects to history, in my opinion. Largely because I can’t help wondering if the people had been educated, would other tragedies have been avoided or at least solved sooner, thus reducing their impact? This is also why I am a massive advocate for free public education and why dishonest politicians are against it. A well educated populus is much harder to control and manipulate.
