One thing I always hated among military families was the tendency of spouses and kids to act as if the rank of their family member actually in the military gave them authority as well..
It’s more ‘my dad can beat up your dad’. Only ‘my dad can give punitive orders to your dad’. You piss me off,I’ll tell my dad who’ll order your dad to do shit work, so he’ll be mad at you and punish you.
Also millitary law says if a dependent causes a problem on base, the officer or enlisted responsible for them gets punished. If there are two dependents the higher ranking dad can usually make the lower ranked one take most of the blame.
It goes beyond the level of my Dad can beat up your Dad. There have been more than one time where it had to be pointed out to spouses and dependents that the military rank of the service person did not grant rank nor authority to anyone else in the family. I experienced some of that personally.
