Independence is a good thing to teach early.
Yes, but the water at bedtime is at least partially a stall tactic, where you get to keep doing what you want while parent fetches and carries for you. Willing to be little Ace did not use that dodge again, at least not with his Mom.
Also not a great idea to fill up small bladders before bedtime.
