Some hints here for the future, to be taken note of:
This spectral version of Ace is already growing distinct from his mortal self, as he grows spiritually stronger and more independent. Eventually, he will probably separate entirely from the mortal/physical Ace and become his own entity, with a numerical-based name… probably. 😉
“Deuce” was also a mostly spectral (as in, not physical, made of meat) split-off from Ace, created by travelling back in time and changing an event in the past, leaving an “Ace” that remembered doing that as a leftover of the original timeline. He’s now going to spend 100 years or so playing house with the Mami-Wata spirit (who may (or may not) have given him a more meat-like form) so Deuce is out of the picture for the foreseeable future of this comic.
The major clues regarding who became or split off of whom are going to be what they do or don’t remember about what’s going on currently. There is more implied time travel.
Deuce is in isolation and so is not aware of any current events that occur after he went with the Mami Wata.
Watch ahead for a Ace-duplicate who remembers this meeting in the afterlife. That’s a big clue.
