Wonder what event set this off?
This was an internet-wide planned event. Most webcomics went dark on the same day.
If I’m remembering correctly, there was some idiotic planned legislation proposed to “control” the internet. Really it would have resulted in potential censorship of anything whoever was in power didn’t like, since it was written in a typically broad language that was far too easily left to interpretation. Fortunately public reaction to this “blackout” helped to convince the legislature that passing such a thing into law was a bad idea.
Yeah, THAT internet censorship law.
FOSTA-SESTA sailed right through.
This is why it is important for people to pay close attention to what their governments (yes,, I’m referring to more countries than just the USA) are doing. They will pass the most ridiculous laws otherwise.
