DADT is a prime example how a law meant to protect a minorities rights can be used to violate the same groups rights.
Trust me DADT was a huge step forward for LGBTQ Rights. Before that someone simply accusing you of being gay or a lesbian was enough for the military to throw you out with a dishonorable dischared (which means no pension, no health benefits and no assistance making the leap from military to civilian.) The military used this as ways to downsize cheaply after both WWII and Vietnam. They also used it to throw women on track to becoming 4 start generals out.
