A large part of why melanin is effective at reducing solar radiation damage is literally because it is darker, thus blocking more light from deeply penetrating the skin. That in mind, their chlorophyll that turns their skin this rather dark green should protect them from sunburn almost as well.
Whether you’re standing under a green umbrella or a brown one, the shade underneath it is about equal, yes?

( … usually referred to as “UVA”, “UVB”, & “UVC” … )
…but that’s in the ULTRAVIOLET portion of the spectrum, not the visible portion which our eyes can see.
I’ve never seen any data comparing melanin’s stats, to chlorophyll’s, so I don’t know if melanin can block an equally-wide range of UV-wavelengths.

Melatonin is more effective in the more energetic short wavelength under 250nm

And there you have a variety of plant photosynthetic pigments, you can see they are more effective in the visible spectrum (between 400 and 700 nm)
