An old house, a geek, a cute transvestite, a very tall lesbian, and at least one ghost–what could happen? – Adult situations and artistic nudity. Not suitable for children.
And now we live in a time when that sort of spyware, and face-recognition software, is accessible to any police department anywhere, for their convenience and deliberate misuse. In fact, it’s their steady track record of inappropriate use (such as producing fake Probable Cause to justify unjustified search and seizure warrents — you know, “armed robbery” if you aren’t wearing the magical black pajamas) that reveals to the public they’ve purchased these very debatably ethical programs, and continue to use them in defiance of some city and state bylaws that have been made to ban their use due to considerable public outcry… but these new “laws” include ZERO consequences for breaking them and continuing to use the spyware on ordinary citizens who’ve committed no crimes, so police departments will continue to (mis)use them until those banning laws have teeth… and sew up all the workarounds they’ve already found like calling their neighboring precinct and asking them to use the illegal spy programs and send them back the results, in return for a promised % of the pillage (“seized assets”).
I keep saying “misuse” and “inappropriate use” as if these weren’t the exact way they intended to use it from day one.
They DO, and HAVE, because they’ve been given a lot of money and military hardware to go after big cartels, trafficking rings, and organized crime rings that politicians and their voting blocks are scared of… which in most cases are fictional. They’re then left to try and prove giving them money is a good thing that produces results (that is, arrests and indictments) and good press in the news services to counter all the “officer-involved shootings”. They would like to get a nice big fat check again next year, and maybe an APC to go with it (for some reason). “Use it or lose it”. That includes their shiny new facial recognition and other spyware toys.
Then consider how much racism drives police action.
Then consider how, by their very nature, they are authoritarians driven to control others with intimidation and violence, from the childhood they spent beating up smaller kids for they money or just for fun, to the proud day they put on that uniform and were handed weapons, authority, and nigh-immunity from consequences of their actions. Bullying is what they love to do; it’s just more high-tech now.

Hinoron:- again, why would ‘they’ bother wasting resources on someone who has done nothing to even flicker on their radar?
