When seeing ghosts isn’t so strange around here, you have to wonder what is.

Ace walked back in the front door to find Carly and Tony talking.
Tony stopped Ace, and said in his heavy East Coast accent, "Ace, there you are. Did my friend, Jaz find you? She likes boys sometimes and I told her you were cool."
"Uh," Ace grimaced, "if she's a petite brunette in a white dress that asked me if I knew I was being haunted? Yeah."
Carly and Tony looked at each other.
"That's," Carly hesitated, "really strange."
"Yeah," added Tony. He continued in his eastern style, "Jaz doesn't usually tell anybody she sees ghosts that she doesn't trust a whole bunch."

If everyone except one member of a group agree that something exist and the accept it as normal, than isn’t the one out of sync with the group is the strange one?
@[Greywolf1963]:
Well, really all they’re saying is that they see nothing strange about one of their friends claiming to see ghosts. Nobody’s actually saying that THEY also believe (or disbelieve) in such things.
What they’ve not (yet) realized is that Jaz really DOES trust Ace “…a whole bunch” — which is probably not something they usually see her do with most people whom she’s just met.
Go back through what has been said about ghosts up until this point. When Ace years a noise coming from the basement and there is nothing down there, Carly casually comments that it was likely one of the ghosts. I’d say he believes. Rocky points out to Pixie that half dressed she is likely to have the attention of anyone with a pulse and a few of the ones without. Again, said casually, so it sounds like both she and Pixie accept there are those in the house who are not alive. Ghosts. Finally Tony says that Jaz sees ghosts not thinks she sees ghosts. It sounds to me like the only one in the group that does not full accept that there are ghosts and that the ghosts are nearby is Ace.
They are surprised that Jaz trusts Ace to the point that she’ll admit seeing ghosts, but they aren’t even a little surprised that Jaz is aware of Ace being haunted.
@[Greywolf1963]:
Your point is well-made.
@[Greywolf1963]:
Going back over the pages, I don’t see anything that implies they disbelieve, it’s just that what they’re saying HERE is simply focused upon Jaz, & how she has chosen to trust Ace so completely in such a surprisingly short amount of time.
As far as their OWN level of belief, everything that I read on this page is neutral on that subject.
What I “read” from all of this is that they’re all big believers in ACCEPTANCE, limited only by what we might refer to as “the Most Extreme Violations of Physics”.
(__ I’m looking at those “Flat Earth Society” & “Hollow Earth” believers as examples. __)
🙂
I’m sure that during their lifetime, Carly & the others have each had their share of stubborn sceptics butting heads with them, & therefore being “circumspect” has doubtless become second nature to them — for reasons that the 3rd_&_4th_Panels in this [2006/10/27]-page make clear:

This is a serial comic, the information on any single page is only a fraction of what is known by the reader at that time. What I put in my previous comments covers the household’s attitude towards the topic of ghosts. I’ve spent my life living with people who display this sort of casual acceptance of the supernatural and I’ve been around those who were certain that such things don’t exist. learning to spot the difference is a survival trait and I am very good at it.
