I’ve definitely done enough archive trawls now – I remember whose arms those are!
I’ve found it’s a common delusion, in the mindset of genuine criminals, that whatever they do to other people is fully justified, but anything done against them, even just reporting the crimes they’ve committed, is completely unwarranted and demands retribution.
Be cautious about escalating matters with the criminally minded. Helps if you can hand the police enough evidence for a conviction, rather than hoping they’ll find it themselves. Your own testimony is not really more substantial than hearsay, without material evidence to back it up.
