Veracity
...so while Surety and I are foster-sisters, we’re actually distant cousins.
Surety
Her mother and my father are cousins with our foster-mother. But, since I can never have children anyway, and Veracity can, it’s not unusual that we’re close.
Sky
I was wondering when you two were going to get around to that.
Ace
Talking about their family life?
Walton
They’ve basically just advertised that one of them is fertile, they would have stable homes for raising children, and that they’re open to threesomes.

Okay, first question: Where’s Gabe during all this? Or would the human ladies not feel as comfortable with him as they do with Ace?
Second: I understand why there are no biological male Orions on board, but is there some reason there are apparently no mechanicals/androids/AIs that present as male? Or is there some unexplored bigotry or bias against males in Orion culture?
Hmm, good question, was thinking it was after Skyclad introduced him to ‘ship life’ for an eligible male, butt that was before the Big Conference…
Maybe they just have a ‘thing’ about dildoes on legs, and the reason for female-appearance gynoids (or is that redundant?) is because they were created to ‘fit in’?
Well, according to this – https://www.tmi-comic.com/comic/learning-space/ – Gabe has a date with Crewmember Marteen. Since he isn’t here, I suspect he’s keeping his date. 🙂
No bias, from previous information Orion birth rates are heavy towards females and male anatomy reacts badly to FTL travel. These combine to result in more female Orions than males doing Space Exploration.
Yeah, I did say I understood why there were no biological Orion males on board. I’m asking why there are no artificials on board that present as male. There’s no logical reason I can think of except one; the natural human propensity to prefer the company of one’s own kind. And if I recall correctly, Orions do derive from humans.
There’s Orion males on board, they’re just in The Can. As for the artificials, I believe there is one on board that presents as a male though we haven’t met him yet.
The androids were not built by the Orions but rather by the Delimun. As the Delimun were effectively immortal gender likely became rather irrelevant. The species they fostered land we know they tinkered with the genetic code in Orions) appear to lean heavily towards female. One of the standard arguments for this is that one male can impregnate multiple females while the female fertility restricts how often she can give birth. Thus a population leaning heavily towards females works better unless you need a large disposable population (for example during times of war, for hunting dangerous threats, etc.)
Also worth mentioning that the Dilmun, and the Golems they built, DO have some extremely sexist attitudes towards males (as demonstrated by Rusty in her first appearance) some of which have shaped Orion culture as well (particularly the more old-fashioned purists). However, the shear rarity of healthy fertile males, making them very much in-demand and popular, has pushed back so hard against this older, bigoted thinking, that it overrules any discrimination for most Orions.
If you only knew five fertile men by name in your social circles, and you hope to ever have your own children someday, you’re going to try and keep on their good side no matter what you might personally think… and keeping to that pattern long enough with change what you think… not to mention the next generation, and the generation after that…
That’s an interesting way to try to get a date. Having so few fertile males makes waiting for the man a waste of time, I guess. It also raises the question of unwanted sexual attention in Orion society, does it exist other than “I wanted a male, but not you right now.”?
Pretty sure Orion females can give unwanted sexual attention to Orion males, and, yeah, vice versa. “I don’t want that from you now” pretty much summarises what it means to be receiving unwanted anything…
And “I don’t want men” is also an option for female Orions – it’s just a lot more socially acceptable than for most human societies.
They may not be asking for a date, just a sample for the turkey baster. But yes, I think they may be un-subtly asking for some Ace attention.
Plotting who is in the Family Tree is Rooted after the main Trunk is just a Branch off the Bough, leading to the Twig/Sprig where anyone can be a Leaf.
Just wondering: why has that one lass not removed her shipsuit yet? Even when everyone was giving each other a scrub she still had her ‘suit on
Is it because she is from another ship?
Ashe is technically on duty.
Threesomes are not new territory for Ace.
I would say that the reason for having golems be female would follow with the population being predominantly female. Add to this that Orions don’t tend towards creative engineering, if the Delinums leaned towards the female form (thus far all three races they brought along seem to run prominently female) there may be no fabber models for Male golems. As for dildos on legs, having the Male form be fully functional would require a bit more creative engineering than just granting a permanent “woody” and what would really be the point?
