An old house, a geek, a cute transvestite, a very tall lesbian, and at least one ghost–what could happen? – Adult situations and artistic nudity. Not suitable for children.
You know… this “comfortable with public nudity” stereotype about Japanese people, it really is exaggerated. There’s certain places and situations where it’s thought appropriate, like public baths and hot springs (which are almost all segregated by gender, despite the wacky hijinks shown in anime that contrive to get mixed groups into the same spring by accident) so really a girl would only be naked among other women, in a very specific place where that is appropriate. That doesn’t equate at all to thinking she might be undisturbed to find herself involuntarily naked in mixed company in a public place.
The key factor there is the culturally appropriate times and places to be naked.
As a young western lady, you might feel perfectly comfortable in a string bikini on a beach. How comfortable would you be wearing the same bikini while attending a church service? A funeral?
In this case it is less about the location and more that she is among family. Peach and X are family through their connects to Ace and Luna. While public baths are separated by gender usually, there are mixed gender pools in some locations and it is not uncommon for families to share a large bath. I rather miss the bath house that was near the Officer’s pool on the base where my father was stationed. After a long day of swimming the steam bath then washing before going into a sizable pool of hot water to soak (to be honest, I probably learned more swimming there than I did in the Officer’s Pools or the Ocean) then when we had soaked enough we got a massage, although only Dad got his back walked on. At the end we would pour ourselves back into clothing and try not to fall asleep in the car.
I think part of the distinction Akane is making here is that nude and naked are very different things. Maggie views them as not wearing clothes vs preparing for sex. Akane and Kimi, I think are referring to levels of vulnerability. Nude with family and friends is safe, naked is not. But I could be completely wrong, only Andy knows for sure.
Akane: “Ahaha! No problem. Such happens near Ace!”
Ace: “I really REALLY wish you and Kimi would stop saying things like that. You’re going to give me a reputation. This time especially it would be really easy to misinterpret that as that I have a terrible habit of forcefully removing the clothes of any women standing within reach of me.”
Jaz: “Relax Ace. Anyone who knows you knows you’d never NEED to force women to very voluntarily take their clothes of in front of you!”
Ace: “I’m not sure if this is getting better or worse for my reputation now…”
I sorta miss the original version, in which Stormy speaks this command in “Dilmun”, & it’s translated in the footnotes.
