Makes you kind of wonder when she was born. Also was she a human transformed or a natural birth from a mermaid mother and who or what her father was?
Evidently she’d become an adult and looking for a territory to call her own at a time when they had intercontinental cruise ships running to Australia. That should narrow the time frame a bit.
Cruise ships are mostly a modern invention. Ocean liners, on the other hand, are quite a bit earlier. But they would hardly have had the spare fresh water for bathtubs in the late 19th century. Salt water on the other hand would have made the crew rather suspicious, even if the permanent bathtubbing hadn’t already.
“First class suite on a ship” is how she phrases it.
That means a class of ship that has first class suites with bathtubs.
She could have taken the trip sometime in the 1900’s, could even be am immigrant from after WW2, but she could have been born 100 years before then (like 1850’s) or earlier
